The Jack Mytton Way

About

Explore the countryside by foot, by bike or on horseback, along the Jack Mytton Way

One of the longest and most scenic trails in Britain, this remarkable trail stretches over 100 miles of unspoilt Shropshire countryside.

Named after the colourful 18th-century horseman, soldier, and all-round eccentric Jack Mytton, the route is perfect for riders wanting a long distance ride. Through rolling hills, quiet lanes, woodland tracks and open moorland, this route offers some truly breath-taking views across the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It’s the ideal way to enjoy a proper countryside escape, with your trusty steed by your side.

You’ll also find places to rest and graze (for both horse and rider!), local livery options, and a warm welcome at every stop.

History of the Jack Mytton Way

The trail is named after “Mad Jack” Mytton, a flamboyant and eccentric 19th-century Shropshire squire known for his love of fast horses, wild antics and outdoor life. He rode everywhere — sometimes even into his own home.
