Things To Do

Bishop's Castle

An ancient market town that provides a unique centre for the exploration of the South Shropshire  & Welsh border uplands. Bishop’s Castle welcomes holidaymakers and local visitors alike, year-round, and is recognised as a “Walkers are Welcome” town. Perfect for people seeking to make the most out of the great outdoors with the many walking routes and cycling trails.

A popular stop for travellers, it’s no surprise that at one time Bishop’s Castle boasted around 46 pubs. Five of which survive to this day and it has the country’s oldest licensed brewery.   With a thriving community, Bishop’s Castle is home to a 140 seat theatre and offers a unique mix of independent makers, shops and services.

Bishop's Castle Crest

If you want to get away… Bishop’s Castle is a small and ancient town surrounded by an area of outstanding natural beauty.  Walk or cycle through the hills of the wild border country.  Eat and drink well in our pubs and cafes.

The emblem above is a facsimile of the seal King James 1st gave to the town in 1609, when he confirmed the rights and privileges given in the 1573 Elizabeth the 1st Great Charter. The seal is in the British Museum and Bishop’s Castle Town Council have the rights over its reproduction.
