Gliding on the Long Mynd

Whether this is your first gliding experience or you’re an experienced pilot and wish to see the Shropshire Hills from above, the Midland Gliding Club is here to offer you one of the most amazing experiences in the county.

Snailbeach Mines

Located 11 miles, South West of Shrewsbury, this site was once one of the biggest and richest lead mines in the country. Originating, we’re almost certain, from Roman times right through to 1955, Snailbeach mine employed up to 500 men when it was at full production.

Take a guided private tour for up to 15 people where you can learn about the site’s geology, history and how the mine worked. Or enjoy one of the self-guided tours, of which there are three, depending on time and ability.

The Great Escape Company

Looking for the ultimate adventure? For a fun-filled day out for all the family, The Great Escape Company have a wide range of activities to suit every age and ability.

Navigate the low ropes through the woodlands at 30 – 90cms above the ground or build a crate stack as high as you can, with a team member stood on top, before it topples. Learn survival skills and try your hand at fire-lighting and shelter-building.

Leavesley Aviation

Registered with the British Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association, The Leavesley Aviation Flying School & Air Experience School offers the ultimate adventure experience.

Rally Car Driving

If driving is more your thing, The Phil Price Rally School is a noteworthy stop during your stay. You can choose from a variety of experiences such as full day, group experiences and their Ladies Day – a full day of driving to celebrate Women’s History Month in 2023.

Using authentic Welsh rally stages, you will learn from their professional, fully qualified instructors who will take you through everything you need to know to build your skills and confidence.

Kayaking on the River Severn

Kayak down the River Severn for an hour or two or watch the Shrewsbury Flower Show fireworks without the crowds as you float in a canoe. Whether you’re looking to book a short trip or wishing to try a wild camping or off-grid adventure, there’s plenty of choice when it comes to kayaking and canoeing on the River Severn.

Suitable for children 13+, as long as there is an adult supervising, it’s a fun-filled adventure for those families with older children looking for something a little different.
